Dramatic arts

Theodor Herzl was the first school in Gqeberha, then Port Elizabeth, to bring in Dramatic Arts in the senior phase of High School. This was in 1998 and our teacher at the time, Robin Williams, subsequently mentored teachers in other schools who were wanting to bring in this enriching subject.

The subject is more than factual, although the theory covers history from the Classical Greeks to modern times, as well as plays from each era, but the students develop empathy, time management (doing plays alongside sport and study), reliability, perseverance and sometimes sheer grit (going onstage ill)

Mrs Niqui Cloete-Barrass is a renowned theatre personality, involved in acting, as well as directing Plays and Musicals who heads this department currently.

Apart from offering Dramatic Arts as a subject, productions run alongside the academic subject. They complement each other. Theodor Herzl Schools is synonymous with Dramatic productions – It is a legacy that will never be lost!

This year we look forward to our High School production, MACBETH, in April 2024.
