Theodor Herzl Schools
Profile of the School PDF Print E-mail

Established on 21 January 1959, Theodor Herzl is a small, independent Jewish Day School situated in 14th Avenue, Walmer, Port Elizabeth.
In 1962 the school moved to the present site, where it accommodates three schools:
82 learners are in the pre-primary school with a staff complement consisting of 4 teachers, 1 secretary and 2 assistants.
158 learners attend the primary school with a staff of 16 teachers, 1 secretary and 2 assistants.
The high school consists of 156 learners, catered for by 20 teachers, 2 secretaries and a Bursar (for the 3 schools).
The schools are situated on the same campus, but physically housed in separate buildings.  Some facilities are shared.
Mr Stephen Fay, as Campus Head, leads the three schools, while each school has an academic head.
In the pre-primary, Mrs Buffy Allanson is the head.
In the primary school, Mrs Elise Crouse takes on this role, while in the high school Mrs Penny Blake is the acting academic head of the school.
Although Theodor Herzl is a Jewish school, only about 12% of the learners are of this faith.
While retaining its Jewish identity and catering for the spiritual needs of its Jewish learners, the schools have, in recent years, provided education for a considerable number of learners of other cultural, racial and religious groups.
The school accepts learners, irrespective of colour and creed, provided that they fulfill the conditions of admission.
Theodor Herzl is an English medium, co-educational school.
The school has a proud academic record and produces excellent Matric results.
A 100% Matric pass rate has been achieved for the past 32 years.
Classes are kept to manageable sizes and classes are split in all subjects at the high school level, ensuring that learners receive intensive tuition and individual attention.
While striving towards academic excellence, the school also provides a busy cultural, sporting and service programme, designed to cultivate well-balanced individuals.
